The USA has been overly generous to all of our ally’s in the name of democracy and freedom. This generosity has lead our ally’s down a path of dependency. Like the wild animal being fed by the generous farmer, they have forgotten that their survival demands independence. The animal forgets how to forage or hunt, and when the farmer moves away or no longer provides, the animal soon dies of starvation, unless they can remember their true instincts.
The USA cannot sustain all of our ally’s in all of the worlds’ conflicts indefinitely and simultaneously, it is impossible. Our ally’s must stand on their own two feet. Countries like Ukraine ought to have invested heavily into fortified defenses, trenches, bunkers, and other means of defense from the east. Unfortunately their corrupt governments and greedy interests have sold the lie that it was unnecessary to do so because big brother USA would protect them.
You reap what you sow, and USA try as we may to protect the world, cannot do so unilaterally, and therefore all will be lost if others do not stand up for themselves.
It is a warning to all nations that peace is not a guarantee, and defense ought to be a priority.
As I said, countries and people shouldn’t relay on someone ! Stop putting taxpayers money into your pockets and start building defense infrastructure. That’s it
All the boomers wanted pensions and free healthcare and vacations. How short sighted.
I mean, in 90s the US very much encouraged this, that was part and parcle of the Wolfovitz Doctrine. It only started objecting in the Obama years when it looked like it might have to do something.
I think weirdly, it's not the economics of Europe arming itself that's the problem. The EU's economy is vast. It's more that security politics became vulgar on the continent, and the safe option was just to let America make the hard choices and criticise it afterwards without helping.
US-ians think they're shouldering some incredible burden, but honestly the defence of Europe isn't much. Congress is tearing itself apart of 6 months over $95bn in 2nd hand arms, but they've spent $3tn of Federal money on entitlements under that time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You guys think that USA is making allies in the name of freedom and democracy? Whole USA presence and alliance with Europe countries has only one purpose: secure their supremacy as superpower and stop other wanna be supremacies from strengthening in the region.
I think it’s both! USA is not single person dictatorship after all. It’s similar to British Empire in 19th century. Did they did things to protect their interests and increase their power? Yes, of course they did! But didn’t they do also positive things for whole humanity, like fighting against slavery at one point? Yes, they did that too at the same time!
And USA helped Britain to not lose WWII in exchange of them giving up their empire and USA becoming superpower.
Well we still have an army! Neutrality demands it.
We don't DO MUCH with that army but we have one!
In fact one could argue that one's army should never be used. A bit like the life insurance you bought.
To counter you SOMEwhat: yes you look after your allies. BUT you also created the Petrodollar and your army does things it really really shouldn't. This is a double-edged sword, your argument.
The size of your army has made you an ally but also another word ending in "lly" ;)
Under Trump you would become the bully once again...
