🇬🇧 🚨Alert: The #ChatControl proposal which has been stalling could be adopted by EU governments after all. The "compromise": Either you agree to have your chats scanned or you can no longer share pictures/videos! Read all about it: https://www.patrick-breyer.de/en/let-yourself-be-monitored-eu-governments-to-agree-on-chat-control-with-user-consent/
Nothing to see here. A shield for democracy. nostr:nevent1qqstmrxy7ghptgyykkyk586egdjt45ku3s7gw3xl7s7ettryew8q05qppamhxue69uhkummnw3ezumt0d5pzqv48qmfahtzxh44z6x6v3x97nphhe5rf9uy7v9ns5kzvugcfutqhqvzqqqqqqyu3je05
How would that work with people from other continents that communicate with people inside the EU? Are they being scanned too?

So is a go illegal to use encryption I cannot use a my bank on internet browser?
Crazy overreach.. very interested in answer to the question that @Toshi asked and am also wondering if it would cause a public outcry.. what steps would European population would have to take to roll it back if it happens to be passed? I guess we don’t have to expect the law to be opposed beforehand cause not enough people are aware?
I hope, but I don't believe that there would be an outcry. Nothing seems to be happening when it comes to such dystopian shit. People are either too stupid to understand the possible consequences, or too propaganda-fed by algorithms to believe they are many enough opposing it. Or maybe really aren't many enough opposing it, I don't know. Plenty of people are aware, and plenty of people have signed a petition against this, including doctors, cybersecurity professionals, adult video industry people, and lots of others, but it wouldn't surprise me if 95% of the general population isn't aware, since mainstream media doesn't report, or if they do, only report that it's for "protecting the children". [This](https://stopchatcontrol.eu/) is one page with a petition, which I thought was the one I'm thinking about, but I can't find that document with all the people who are against it that I saw, so it was probably another one.

So, anyways, this already exists. https://f-droid.org/packages/com.amnesica.kryptey/
Text, but no video or images without scanning? A renaissance for ASCII art perhaps. But seriously, it's obvious this isn't about the children. They are planning something.
The time for activism, speaking to politicians and appealing to central authority has passed. It's a waste of energy; that is better invested to help our friends and family defend against constant unrelenting attacks on our freedom. Every little bit actually helps improve our immediate environments. If you want more leverage, improve the UX of privacy-tech and freedom-tech tools.
Genuinely curious and trying to learn, with things like this floating in the EU and already passed in the UK , and the Dutch courts basically saying FOSS code needs to include KYC and software writers are legally responsible for user actions, why do European folks pull BTC related services out of the US and focus on Europe? Maybe it’s because I’m American and biased but we at least have ironclad free speech. I’d rather take my chances with a money service business charge in the US where I can almost certainly beat in court and where I know I can say and publish what I want.
