An open-source streaming client that allows you to watch videos from multiple platforms (including YouTube) ad-free. Works incredibly nice so far, go give it a try!

 yea newpipe is a great FOSS youtube player app, no ads ever and it can even easily save videos locally, choosing the format / size in the ui
(youtube-dl still offers more options for command line usage, but harder to use)
