 @92892b15 what data are being less-retained? Is this for our users’ uploads or for media imported from elsewhere? What user-visible impact will this have, if any?

This will almost certainly make dobbstown propagate less. We'll see less of everything, everyone will see less of us.

 @92892b15 I just scrolled down my timeline, and images I posted here a year ago are still visible. That doesn’t seem to line up with that statement, not that I’m mad about it. 🤣 I have yet to try building my own Mastodon server, are there separate knobs for “local users’ content” vs “content being cached from other instances”?

 @819b261b Yes, there are settings for how much local content is cached and how much outside is content cached.
