Excellent questions. I have often wondered the same thing.

It looks like that will be up to us. If we can transmute our internal need for control into an acceptance of Self, peace can be sustained.

If we use bitcoin as a replacement of the current methods of control we will reinvent what we are opposing.  

 That part of reinvention reminds me of how these stages keep repeating throughout history no matter what "answer" we come up with, because humanity finds a way to break the "answer" and start over. 

Open source, with enough consensus, can force a change in the future that society may end up regretting.
