Wait till fees suddenly spike and your channel gets forced closed. I know that affected Alby Hub users during the last spike.
It need to be bad setting then..I have kinda small channels in compare to you guys and i was not affected.
I’m not using Alby Hub. I just saw posts about it during that last major spike we had with that stupid yield generating scam.
My channels are tied to my Start9 and not AlbuHub. I don’t know if that makes a difference but everyone I know that’s been running a lightning node for years said force closures aren’t something to be too worried about.
I ran a few different nodes for about 4 years and it didn’t happen to me often, but it does happen. Sometimes it can be really painful. Ask @The Fishcake🐶🐾
Ouch! True, many channels were lost due to on-chain fees’ predictions not matching the peer node. 😭😭😭
Alby works smooth until i made some mistake by my hand, all the time 🤣🤭 But its just my opinion, im not good at LN that much, im total pleb tbh 🤣🤣 https://image.nostr.build/e18f6d7c9b06d66f784f33d4a305a8aa096856e2cf99bf121da4648498ed1c14.jpg
I don’t doubt it’s awesome. Lightning just gets chaotic during high fee environments and if you’re not a pro, it can be difficult to manage. We’re in a low fee environment now, but it probably won’t last that long.
Yeah, now I will be scared of fees time more 🤣 But when I have some private channels, would be they affect too? I want soon open bigger channel 1M with someone from Nodestrich gang, so maybe it will be safer to me open just a private one and stay humble stacking until I’ll get more knowledge 🫡
High fee times are when lightning is most needed/wanted, but also when it’s the most painful and costly to have something screw up. Good connectivity for reliably sending meaningfully sized payments without them failing isn’t cheap. You lock up a lot of capital in a hot wallet to maintain those channels with adequate liquidity, and a lot of time monitoring and backing up channel states. Lightning is amazing but running a full always-on node just to receive zaps is overkill and puts a lot more money at risk than what you might lose if a custodial wallet rugs.
Yeah I don’t run a node anymore unless you count using Phoenix as running a node. I’m glad the option to run my own node exists in case I ever have a need to do that again though.
Yea Breez, Aqua, and a small custodial balance does everything I need it to for now.
For zapping yeah but for some of us in podcasting 2.0 we’re running nodes and connecting to each other so the sats flow. PC 2.0 uses keysend payments and has deeply integrated Alby in the apps so this is the perfect setup for what we are building.
Makes sense if you need it. It’s all about tradeoffs.
The node technique works 😅
why is more money at risk? what's the risk you fear?
The risks associated with running a Lightning node are not anything new, so I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking here or why you are asking it.
But I’m running just simple umbrel server with LND app, not yet reinstalled to start9 🤭 But before I will reinstalling it, I will learn more about core lighting and bitcoin knots 🪢 Heard that it is better that LND
the network and tools get better and more resilient each time something unexpected happens. compare what we have today to what we had a year or two ago…
