This suggests a false dichotomy maybe? Someome who isn't a BTC maxis / BTC tourettes poster isn't automatically a 'normie'. Also BTC maxis / BTC tourettes posters are also seen as 'normies' by a lot of people. Buying BTC and/or saying BTC slogans doesn't make you a non-normie. Imo
I think buying BTC and dating BTC slogans absolutely puts you into a non-normie bucket. Vast minority at this point. That's neither good nor bad, even if I think it us a good thing, in general. Right now, many "normies" are shaving their heads and accidentally recognizing chastity as a virtue in the wake of literally Hitler getting elected. Ok, maybe those aren't normies either. I'm too tired to be coherent at point.
People can see BTC maxis as normies, normies who have been captured by one obsession. Which is a very normie thing to happen to someone.
I see “normies” as those with interests other than bitcoin who I might follow and engage with (because I find them interesting). The term is very open to interpretation though.
I think I agree with you then lol Eg. Is someone who is an expert on lichen, a normie? No. Even if they don't know much/anything about bitcoin? Maybe they save money (fiat!!!) in a (god forbid!!!) bank account..? Still, no.
Hmm, I’d follow an expert on lichen. 😁 I’d class them as a normie though - with an area of expertise. It’s a funny term. Perhaps I think of the term more as a non-dev, non-bitcoiner. 😅 Someone who posts about interests, experience, expertise outside of bitcoin and dev. (caveat: they can still be a dev and a bitcoiner 😅).
The lichen expert sees a bitcoiner as normie with a particular interest too tho lol. 'Mf doesn't even stack lichen'
I’d imagine they do. But where are they? Waiting to follow them… 😂
They're on twitter tbh
Yep, although I’d argue that more are not actually. Real science research community is poorly represented on all social media in general. It’s simply not suited to it or the “done thing”. But of those who are on there, why are they? Ego? Peers are on there as well? Twitter market penetration over time?
just generally speaking about niche interest and expertise, (not specifically 'lichen expert' lol) they're on twitter because there will be other people with their interest and the possibility of finding even more, or the possibility of reaching people via the massive userbase. And having meaningful conversation, making real life connections, events, career opportunities etc etc. Now imagine a lichen expert on nostr. That's why they're not here, none of these conditions are already here for them, and even worse, there's not much hope for the possibility of these conditions emerging on nostr. Certainly not any time soon.
