The most interesting aspect of all of this, to me, is that Bluesky's success is tied to centralized services. People love this. They yearn for it. We're opting out of that with Nostr. It's a mental shift that not everyone is ready to experience just yet.

When I wrote the "Bluesky is a scam" piece the entire criticism I remember from the Bluesky enthusiasts was that "no one cared about it being a protocol or decentralized in any way", and that's kind of what you're saying here too.

But my question is: if no one cares, why do they keep saying it again and again over and over?
 Cognitive dissonance
My guess is that people don't really, truly understand decentralization. They see Bluesky as an alternative to Twitter and an alternative to Elon. They could care less about decentralization.
Exactly what i see as well. This is why I focus on “own your socials” instead, when talking to others about nostr.

Many have no concept of what the Internet was like before Big Tech built the walls around the prison. They stay there because it's designed to be easy for the nominally tech-literate to engage with, even if the service itself is awful.

I admit to registering an account with Bluesky -- to see it for myself.

Of course I used an email alias, a phone number with no name attached to it, and a profile picture from ThisPersonDoesNotExist dot com.

These days I see no reason to fully reveal my identity to the world.

I like Nostr best. Would be better if the BTC "community" didn't dominate the discussions, but it's still good. We just need more vocal Catholics (and other Christians).
"Mental shift" means f.e. decide which relays you are listening to, it is an additional task. How do you choose yours?

I think the great thing about Nostr is not to be scattered but to avoid monopolies technically
