I'll build my own fucking dishwasher if I have to. I probably will, because the next government move is going to be mandating that all new appliances must be smart and the certainty of planned obsolescence. 

 well, most of them are planned obsolete anyway now. But really unless it uses something other than wifi to communicate state and stuff, someone will just figure out a way for you to tell it there are no restrictions

Power line communications is how it will talk directly to the meter, using the same cabling the power is provided over. 

 right. But power line communication is tricky and having multiple devices on a home's lines would make that not work well.  They'll go for wifi because that's what a lot of stuff already has. These are bureaucrats, not smart people. 

 I'll impregnate my own dish washer and she can't be controlled by wifi 

 be careful with that, the dish cleaning mode will degrade after a few months into that cycle
