Agreed! Also, although one country’s wokeists aren’t responsible for another country’s wokeists, I find it funny that American wokeists scream “book bans!!!” every time we just try to get pornography out of libraries, and yet, Canadian wokeists are openly getting rid of good and important classics. (The article mentioned that Canadian school libraries are carrying obscene books, as well. As long as they are newer and are obscene in a woke rather than non-woke way, they are welcome on school shelves.)
There are wonderful classics by children’s authors including Noel Streatfeild and Rumer Godden that I am especially worried about. Fortunately, every family will probably keep a stash of Harry Potter books, and surely, many Jewish groups will make sure The Diary of Anne Frank lives on, but there are lesser-known classics that really could become inaccessible to most people.
I can't remember who said it, but I like this quote: You don't go to the viking museum to see the kind of ships they would have built, if they had lived a few centuries later!
I don't want to read books that the author would have written, if only they'd had the 'benefit' of woke re-education.
That was me! 😂 I’m flattered that you remember.
It really stuck in my mind because it cuts through all the arguments about whether or not we should be allowed to read about 'unsavoury' ideas! I've used it several times in real life too.
Wow, thanks! It’s good to know that, in addition to posting some version of, “I can’t believe this is happening.”/“Why is this happening?” at least five times per week, I occasionally post something that people can use IRL.
