 I personally don't care too much about the current meta data leak of nip04 and really want a way to chat with pubkeys and not with something people have to setup separately.

 All you have to do is install the app and login with Amber. You can even use it as your main Nostr client. It has your following feed in it. UI is nice too. Also, has a built in ecash wallet. Don’t know why more people don’t use it.

 it is a nice app, but i still prefer amethyst and agree w Leo it's not important enough to me to stitch apps.

 I think Amethyst also uses nip-17 for DMs

 So they support Gift-Wrapped DMs. That is great and I hope, all clients can agree on supporting that but it's really a pain to have differing standards. If you write somebody and they don't reply, you never know if their client even supports that standard and with nip04 getting removed from clients, that can now even happen with nip04.

At least with nip04 one can check if when the recipient has last authored a nip04 message. The other standards have no way of knowing the recipient's capabilities. Even if clients would set a marker in the profile, you wouldn't know for sure if the recipient keeps using that client.

 Nip-04 has been marked as deprecated for a while now. If people start migrating to apps like @0xchat, maybe that will finally encourage client devs to upgrade to stop their users from leaving.
