I have a mini pc with a core 2 duo p8700 (2.53ghz) and 4gb ddr3 ram lying around. Would that be a good somewhat good base to build a full #bitcoin node (not lightning) if i slap a 2TB ssd in there? #asknostr
For a Bitcoin node it should be fine although 4GB RAM might be a little low if you are planning to build it using Umbrel or StartOS.
Yes StartOS was planned … I need to find out if it’s upgradable. Would 8gb be sufficient?
According to this they say 8GB+ recommended although 4GB as minimum so I guess you could try with 4GB first and see how it performs. https://docs.start9.com/0.3.5.x/diy/diy-x86
I wold say yes, I‘ve a tiny pocket pc running and it works. Your p8700 is completely sufficient. Do it for the network # bitcoin Best wishes
Are you using StartOS?
no, unbrell. Don‘t judge me😅. But I know Start9 and I will migrate. My node is running sine 2021, is workin on a Pi. All for the network ✌️
This is the way 🫡 How much ram does your machine have?
I would have to look that up, I think 4gb
Yes Definitely it only needs around 2gb ram really . Get Satsuma . But core will work on any major distribution you choose. I used 4 gb but then I bit the bullet and have it 24 gb and it never gave me any trouble so soft goal can be to upgrade ram eventually. But definitely follow thru that’s a great idea https://satsuma.btcdir.org/
