 Q. are we about to see a repeat of the swift expansion of market share by #Japanese motor manufacturers from the 1970s, repeated in the realm of #electricvehicles by #Chinese manufactuers in the next decade?

Nearly half of all #electriccars exported from China are sold in #Europe, but then again, nearly half of those were #Tesla cars.

As with Japan before the key may be over-capacity in China... which is driving exports (and pricing).

Soon enough the evidence will be on the roads
@43d7c4ea the complete transfer of the UK economy from industrial capitalism to service rentierism. The long-term consequence of building your lifestyle of taking in your neighbours washing, is that if the neighbour needs to cut back, then, like UK has cut back maintenance, they cutback and you are squeezed all seems well until it collapses. See RAAC and Grenfell for examples of what happens.
@43d7c4ea I think people assumed that Chinese cars would be poor quality, as that's their (misinformed) view of Chinese products. So brands haven't managed to get a foothold.

But the incumbent car brands have dragged their feet on BEVs. They've made them premium price to try to claw back the cost of changing their business. Chinese brands haven't had that baggage or needed the decades of expertise around ICEs to make a new car. They've got good products and the consumer is taking notice.
