Yet 99% of them leave.
mostly because they don’t reach a moment where the app provides value for them. Your making an assumption that zaps are the thing driving people away, but that is not been our experience when talking to people.
I'm not saying they drive people away, I'm saying it's not a reason to stay. Anyone can implement some gimmick feature and call it the next big thing. The fact that it's technically usable money doesn't mean anything because no one is making enough to buy anything with. It could just as well be fake money and it would be functionally the same feature.
most people i follow here are also posting on x. also the universe feed is all over the place and not a very engaging experience for me. i would be on here more if i could easily package/compartmentalize different content for myself to digest (maybe i can and am missing it?) similar to communities on reddit, for example.
There's nothing wrong with zaps, but it's just a silly gimmick feature. At the end of the day, a diversity of community is what people need. Talking about Bitcoin all day every day sucks. The only good engagement that happens here comes from the Mastodon bridge.

Since apple forced zaps away, the stream of zaps faded a lot in my experience. Correlation might not equal causation, but I really look forward a version of damus that has zaps on notes. 🫣
