New Study Shows Improved Automatic Emergency Braking Technology A recent study by AAA finds that newer vehicles with automatic emergency braking (AEB) technology are significantly better at preventing forward collisions than older models. The research, conducted on a private closed course, tested three vehicles with AEB systems of varying ages and found that 100% of the newer vehicles braked before a collision, compared to 51% of the older vehicles. The study's findings come as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) finalizes a new rule requiring all light-duty vehicles to have robust AEB systems by 2029. While some automakers are pushing back against the new requirement, citing concerns about its feasibility with current technology, AAA is urging continued improvement and implementation of the technology.
