That's true. 

 i like how i hijacked this thread and turned it into a creationism debate and a brainstorming session for hte neo steppe warrior. 

 I just assumed we were.  But the armor is there to protect them from enemy fire, not out own.  Still gotta figure out this mounting and triggering...
