I haven't bought a new laptop or desktop in 6 years and don't feel the need. Seems that since 98% of computing happens in a web browser now, local computational power is less important.

On the flip side, upgrading phones every couple years is still important because the hardware and sensors keep improving substantially.
What do you mean by sensors here?
 Camera, radio, etc.
 Ah got it thx
iPhone user here. Used to upgrade every 2 yrs, but on a 4yr upgrade cycle now. 13 Pro Max still going strong, but will miss out on 1yr of Apple AI.
Why are you not already con Graphene?
I’ve considered it. Long time iPhone user so hard to give it up. That said, having a device for mission critical/private workflows and another normie device probably makes sense.

Might start playing with it one day. But yet to have a multisig wallet setup and a proper lightning node up and running, so I’ll focus on those two things first.
i only have a smart phone because of xapo bank and in general banks are not doing web based apps these days... i'm sure it's on instructions from their shadowy banker cult leaders

but xapo hiked the annual fee a lot so early next year i'm bailing on them, and probably will start using my thumb-sized mini super dumb phone (no features at all, just voice and sms and damned tiny) and probably go through the rigmerole of registering address and opening bank account and such

i wish i could just put my smart phone in a chipper and forget about it but probably in 6 months time some other bullshit will force me to not shred it into tiny pieces

fuck smart phones

every time they "improve" things what they really improve is how well it spies on you

i get very tired of this thing turning on its light at the slightest sound or vibration around it
yeah, same here. until i may require for modeling: keepin usin my 8g ram lap 😸
Not valid for QubesOS users 😀
I was happy with my old notebook - until I tried QubesOS
You can run it on old Thinkaods like the X230 with 16GB RAM etc. But you are not able to run a lot of VMs at the same time
My phone is 4.5 years old & still performs better than 90% of the phones on the market. 😉
upgrade cycles continue to get longer for me on both phones and desktop

The computation in the browser is local too lol.

You mean "server-side" do you.
