The word currency comes from curro, which is flow or something, so not far off.
This is the very reason why the "I can't believe you spent X amount of bitcoin to buy *something*; should've just hodled!" line of thinking is ridiculous. Bitcoin wouldn't have any value in the first place if people weren't insightful and crazy enough to first exchange it for goods and services and accept it as payment.
