i’ve never been, but maybe i can stop in & check it out! the only thing that might stop me or keep my visit short is that i’m trying to be extra COVID safe & might not eat at indoor restaurants/bars this upcoming week with a big event i really don’t want to miss the following weekend. but i’ll for sure be at the journalism event wit my mask on :)

The event is for journalists to learn about decentralized social media as a tool for bottom up rewiring of the media ecosystem. We will have a journalist historian and open web advocate speaking as well as a journalist who works primarily with journalists in authoritatian regimes to talk about the needs of these folks. I’m rounding things out with an overview of decentralized protocols and questions journalists should ask themselves when choosing where to spend their time on the decentralized web. Some context that folks here might not be aware of: The NYC journalism community expermented with crypto journalism 5-6 years ago on a project called CIVIL and it did not go well. The focus of this event will be primarily on Nostr as a result. We are working with journalists in the Journalism Accelerator program when they are ready to try out zaps in Nostr. I finished a call 10 minutes ago with one publication that is now ready to check them out. If you know journalists who might be interested please encourage them to attend! How cool 🔥 didn’t know there was a prior project (nor that it went particularly poorly). Perhaps it’s lucky that nostr does not rely on any blockchain or crypto token to operate. Zaps are just the icing on the cake ⚡️🎂 I’d certainly be interested in hearing what your speakers have to say.
