 New tiny and cheap LoRa board from Seeed Studio. These can run #Meshtastic so could be a good option for building small hidden nodes.

 We have a few hidden solar powered nodes here mounted on trees or posts in places where there shouldn’t be too many people around to find them. As far as I know only one has gone missing so far..
