October 31, 1517 was the day Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Church of All Saints in Wittenberg, Germany. Reformation Day. 

On October 31, 2008, a link to a white paper authored by Satoshi Nakamoto titled ‘Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System’ was posted to a cryptography mailing list. White Paper Day. 

Coincidence? Perhaps. Either way, there are parallels between these two fundamental events. The separation of church and state, and the separation of money and state.
