Electronic payments allowed for economic growth. It has absolutely nothing to do with fiat money. It becoming fiat was a side effect of going digital. 

It’s like saying you took medicine to get better but it gave you a migraine, then claiming the migraine made you better.

Counterfeiting cannot, and never has had any economic benefit. It is purely and ONLY fraud. It has exactly the same net effect as stealing.
