Lots of #DnD companies and players are seeking ways to add Feats to Backgrounds, but for me the more interesting space is to add Cantrips to Backgrounds. That Farmer? They should know Druidcraft. The Smith? Produce Flame The Urchin? Prestidigitation If you want a "broad magic" fantasy world give everyone a non-combat cantrip https://fullmoonstorytelling.com/2020/06/22/cantrips-and-backgrounds-are-a-perfect-match/
I know this isn't completely new. It leans into Eberron But broad magic doesn't have to result in noir. We have broad tech and cyberpunk wasn't the result (or was it?).
