not clear on what you are suggesting but also don't have experience with pow. would use the same basic algorithm as bitcoin mining pow (I believe). but wouldn't use/integrate with actual bitcoin mining network, would make it way to expensive
That's why I want such tokens to not only pay for the user himself but also his follows.
while this does allow more flexibility, doesn't really help new users who no one follows imo. and new users who no one follows are the ones we need to have a smooth experience moving to nostr.
I don't mind having it be invite-only. They really need just one follow. As we don't really have a spam problem yet, you're happy about every new user but that will change quickly and requiring new users to do a week of POW to beat the 3s ASIC of the spammers won't solve this.
personally hate the idea of it being invite-only I agree with your point about spammers using asics. though I do think this will only be a profitable attack once nostr has sizable user base, even then its not a low cost spam attack still thing pow is worth trying, at least for now
distributed moderation will handle spam well because you can expand the moderation effort over many users
I agree with this. I plan to outsource moderation to users somehow. need to think through incentives though so it doesn't lend itself to abuse.

Only if all users have to pay. If you charge power users (more than x posts a day, huge social graph, many images) you can fund the infrastructure and keep the platform free for plebs. This model would support infuencers who want to build a social business without shoving advertising down everyone's throat.

I dunno I think it could work. I just don't like the incentives it sets up. namely, power users are more important to nostr infrastructure providers than plebs.
he is asking people to pay the cost of netflix for the privilige of having a stupid badge while being the content providers for his service, just think about that for a moment, while also being forced into his vision of how it should run and what will be censored

users with a larger social graph are more valuable, you should be paying them not the reverse elon could have used his 100million followers to start a new platform, instead his 44billion will get eaten by #nostr , #activitypub, #holepunch #keet and similar
