Wow. Exciting to see how they're keeping up with Fedora. Might have to flash my wifey MacBook with Asahi to liberate her from Apple hell.

 Lol. Yes!

The community working on that have done an amazing job, it must be/have been a massive undertaking to reverse engineer all of that stuff!

💯 especially since Apple Silicon is an "entirely undocumented" platform. Impressive.

I wonder how well Asahi Linux performs, especially around battery usage. I used to dual boot Ubuntu years ago when MacBooks were using Intel chips and it did alright.

I used to do the same same ;) Though no longer a mac user, I am also interested in this.

According to the project they've "optimized the scheduling and power consumption of the DSP processing, so you’ll get excellent battery life while playing back audio."

Based on the info in the link below from earlier this year (Asahi Mix 39) it does seem they are continuing to improve on battery life.

 > Putting EAS and utilisation clamping together, we took a 15" M2 MacBook Air from about 6 hours of useable battery life just sitting at the desktop to about 8-10 hours of 1080p30 YouTube, 12-15 hours of desktop use, and an enormous 25-28 hours of screen-off idle time. We still have many more tricks up our sleeves to eke out more battery life, and a deep dive on EAS utilisation clamping is in the works. Watch this space!

That's nice!
