Any of my czech or slovak friends have any interesting history about the band The Plastic People of the Universe? Apparently they did underground cassette releases recorded at Vaclav Havel farm after they were arrested in 1976? I found some mentions of these but figured if yall know more lore, myths or what y'all know about this group.
#czech #czechstr #musicstr Plastici jsou mimo moje znalosti skoro komplet.👀 Kdo je tady starej pankáč a ví? nostr:nevent1qqsyayz8fwed0wxd7ljp6unyfyudh3wduzjt9wka6xecd8ggmuajkacpzamhxue69uhkummnw3ezucnfw3c82mnt9enx6tczypx54dehutamttc06kgtfdlgcml8d5aq92termmlmt8kq8u72radsqcyqqqqqqgetkvf7
I could ask some older rockers around. But personally have no idea, never listened to them. I'm team "Pražský výběr".😅
Ah no worries, thank you. I found a reference to them in a book and became fascinated. I probably have enough to make a mention of them in my upcoming talk, but I was curious. I also learned you needed a license to play music back then! Honestly, there's just too much cassette history. I'm trying to make a linear narrative about it all but it's like respooling a bunch of loose tape 😀
As for socialism, the whole history of art here is insane. My fav moment is Pražský výběr playing on stage with Frank Zappa after we got free. There's a badly taped thing on YouTube I think. That must've been awesome, I could only imagine the spirits of that day.
Oh interesting. I'll look for this. I'm going to try to play some cassettes live at this talk. Hopefully it's not too much of an ask from the stage media team. So I'm putting some recording clips on the tape to play.
An incredible gig. Pražský výběr - Prague selection - in 1991 played to celebrate departure of Warsaw Pact army from then Czechoslovakia. There were a Velvet Revolution in 1989 but we were still occupied until 1991. In the video, a helicopter with Soviet general leaving the venue is seen. They literally drove the army out of our country. (In fact, the general was in the audience and inflatable dummy soldier in the helicopter). Frank Zappa joined Výběr on stage and played a guitar which he hasn't done for years before. PS: Havel in the audience included. Bye, goodbye The fire's already lit Bye, goodbye The time's up Bye, goodbye Here's to a healthy fight Bye, goodbye To all the bullies Adieu C.A. https://youtu.be/_3tPOnVEkDc
