It's always tricky. Do you keep helping people, even though you get little to nothing in return? Would you rather be a good doormat or a good narcissist? There's a way to find balance, but in most cases it's viewed in one extreme light or another. Being unconditionally charitable leaves you in a position to be disrespected and taken for granted. Only taking care of yourself leaves you in a position to be labeled or actually become a stuck up narcissist.
