 What/why is most difficult? 

 The constant balance between time spent and usability it will potentially get. Sometimes it’s just a self inflicted doubt and constant fear of making a catastrophic mistake that will ruin everyone’s experience 🐶🐾🫂🫡

 I’m in a similar position. It’s too easy to get distracted with my old routines or roadblocks, but I remind myself why this work is important and fun. 

 I feel you! Luckily I almost always find motivation to push forward. Setbacks are part of the way, so I need to remind myself this fact. We should have a regular dev chat to just vent and talk about obstacles, it may help us to stay stronger and more focused 🐶🐾🫂💜🫡

 If I only knew enough about Mastodon to even see it as a catchup target. All I know is its name 🐶🐾🤣🤣🤣🫂

 I mean .. from front end, administration, and backend to the storage and deaign for scale, nostr appears to be very behind or never will be as good as others.

Its interesting that nostr is more decentralized than say, competing social tech. Thst rocks

 Ok, that’s better. Not 💯 true (again subjective part) but nostr has still a lot to do to be very scalable, but definitely has architectural advantages to scale well. I am not going to go into technical details, but the main advantage I see is its simplicity. We haven’t invested much into proper scalability yet, but if there was a need, I see how to make it work with millions of active users. 

And by the way, I do appreciate all the criticism that comes my way, it helps a lot with making a better product. 

Media side is the main area I am focusing on, and can assure you that we can handle a large number of concurrent users even now. Thanks again, and I hope to hear more from you in the future 🐶🐾🫂🫡 

 Thanks for the reply. I left the fediverse for nostr full time.  I want to see it thrive. Redis caching and postgres backends would help a lot.  Hopefully we see s3 support soon for uploads so anyone can host a media server easily like witj minio.  

 It’s already kind of possible with nip96, but as you can guess s3 object storage is not a great solution to the problem. Postgres is also not the best choice for this, cost of scaling is too high even if caching is there. I think more solid approach would be a KV storage backend for events. 🐶🐾🫡🫂

 It’s too hard to give up on such a beautiful thing because when it works; that feeling of it running and it’s error free, when all semantics are in perfect order, the layers don’t conflict, when everything aligns… it’s one of the best feelings in the entire universe!!!  That is why I couldn’t ever stop🫂.  Those moments are just too precious!!!!
