 Something’s I’ve never understood.

Why is it that people, when vehemently disagreeing, resort to ad hominem attacks?

I mean, I do understand why, and yet don’t understand how those taking the ad hominem route don’t see that doing so negates the position they are advocating. Counterproductive.
Because they don’t realize it’s ok to be wrong and it doesn’t mean you’re dumb, just not as informed as you could be on one particular issue.
Happens to me all the time and all I can think is ……

“When you find yourself in a hole, step one … stop digging.”
Ya it’s hard. People don’t want to be seen inconsistent and feel as though there’s a hole in the logic process.
“Question your priors” is what I hear all the time and yet I’m convinced no one actually does it. Double down. Period.

Not sure if this is an accurate attributable quote, but sums up much of how I deal with all #China debates. https://image.nostr.build/36f71a4cfac0dfc7046c828c36564f299c6c7086051de2e542af7db661583e53.jpg
