Over time, plasticizers leach from the #plastics, which allows the material to deteriorate into potentially hazardous organics and #microplastics. Now, a team led by Christo Sevov, the principal investigator of the study and an associate professor in chemistry and biochemistry at The Ohio State University, has found that using electricity to permanently affix those chemical additives can prevent such unwanted reactions.

This is huge. I deal with businesses who buy million of lbs of plasticizers per year. I wonder at what point in the value chain this new tech will be added and how quickly it will be adopted. Some will see an incentive to do it, others will feel pressured politically to reduce pollution but may not have a financial model that supports the change….interesting to think about.
