I had a cat once that disappeared for over a month and then randomly came back and my sister’s cat disappeared for 3-4 months and then came back after she had moved away, her former neighbor was able to catch him until my sister could get back there. Cats are never really domesticated and are resilient as hell. Don’t give up hope. 

 I hope he comes back. Walk outside everymoring with "the cat came back" in my head. 
We live near a busy street. We had a previous adopted ally cat a few years back that was hit. 
Ralf started showing up soon after and really helped with keeping everything else away.
