All I know about it is that the creature wearing Bungie's skinsuit made it after they wound the studio down after Halo. I assume the game sucks as a result.
It's no Bungie Halo, that's for certain. The only thing that reminds me of that in D2 would be PVP and the gunplay. The story was trash, the PVE is pretty bad, the raids I guess are mixed depending on who you ask, Gambit was fun but the community hated it, PVP is fun, but they stopped supporting it and it's not competitive in the slightest.
D2 players will say it's like D2 and Warframe players will say it's like D2 to get D2 players to bump up the numbers. Tried it for like an hour and got bored.

It's just a kinda grindy f2p Third Person Shooter with a parkour movement system thats honestly fun enough to make the grind enjoyable.
the movement was fun. Just wish the onboarding was better when I tried it.
Destiny 2 is really fun, couldn't play too much since it makes my 11 years old i5 weep but what I played was pretty fun, it's like Borderlands but not shit.
It's fun if you don't take it seriously. or if you're super hardcore into it. If you were middle ground like me trying to find gear and didn't do raids then it was aids.
