[Sets VPN to Brazil] Twitter: doesn’t load #Nostr: works the same as always I actually did this to keep myself off of Twitter and to give more Brazil VPN traffic for their govt to sort through, but it also just kinda hit me how important of a difference that single thing implies. I also realize that Nostr could be even better, more resilient, and more censorship resistant. I think it will be, and I hope to have something one day to meaningfully contribute to that.
Nostr is 🧡 Twitter is 🥲
do not expect judge Xandão to zap this note
What happens if Brazilian condom head decides to ban certain Nostr apps like Damus or Primal? Yeah - I get that you could just go swap client, but how is that materially different to just using a VPN for X ?
Not the same problem. Seems like it because the app and the service are the same with X. But I can’t go to the *web* version of X. Their IP is banned. Nostr and the apps people use are separate things. If they tried to do that with a popular relay, nothing would change for basically anyone. If they ban the app from the AppStore, you can still just use the same account and relays in any web client.
Humans are infinity more motivated to seek Immutable Truth and Empathy Abuse than any centralised obstacles that can be cast ahead of them and are few. The cost of trying to make a lie true in Fiat terms is infinite too and Fiat by it's nature means they have less resources so to do.
Interesting, I did the same just now and VPN shows BR, and the IP shows as Brazil, but still gets to the twitter / x logon screen without issue..?
Interesting, I haven’t had it load since I started doing that. Might be what @12bd0599 said, not all ISPs are participating in the ban.
Working on a Brazilian startup right now, A water filtration system. I am trying to convince the CEO to use one of the old designs to include bitcoin miners, The machine produces solar electricity, Distillation for water purification, And produces WiFi. I think his company is a perfect model to bring Bitcoin services to Brazil. I sent him a node, A couple coldcards, And a Tor encrypted router, And it got lost in the mail. So now I have to save up the 4000$ mining Fiat to personally deliver these devices to him in Sao Palo. Brazil is a logistical nightmare.
