 Once you realize that politicians are not altruistic, and that they're in politics for themselves and their own personal gain, then everything makes sense.

 Yeah, that's a given. 

I'm more interested in whether a small but well-funded govt with surveillance powers is actually more dangerous for the populace than a large sprawling bureaucracy.
