It's a bit small to gain meaningful funding from the user base. New models I think are needed such as nostr finance and markets. But that is hard to get through the politics.
Markets is good one! Integrated P2P inside the clients or P2P exchange, Coinjoin, where you charge fees but then you gotta watch for the friendly jurisdictions that you will not end up like samurai devs or Ross Ulbricht
P2P tends not to work very well, and is going on (and mainly failing) in a few different places. Coinjoin is a red flag for the feds, so devs dont really want to risk it. Maybe some will, tho. Fees wont add up to much I expect, and mixing can be done in many other places. I think AI integration will be a good match for nostr. Combine that with games too. Lots of viral paths for social games.
There are definitely good ideas to be explored but not any time soon! Devs are comfortably are being dependent on none profit orgs
10% funded dev crowds out 90% unfunded. Same with relays. We move slowly towards centralization. But on a longer time line new projects will emerge.
Yeap! As I said we just need more nostr devs but with different incentives 😉 It will happen

Monetizing nostr apps isn't straightforward. Its difficult if not impossible to use the existing webs monetizing models since users can easily switch apps. For examples: - I could start showing ads but that would slowly annoy my users and if I didn't get new users I would slowly bleed users - Subscriptions could work. But really only for access to premium or future feature. Not for content ( since I don't control it ) - zap splits might work. But even Lightning isn't really optimized for splitting 1-2% of a payment to a third party I could go on, but the my point is since I don't own the content in my app or the users that use it. I don't know what I could sell besides my time developing the app
Ads will only make any sense once nostr will be used widely and outside of bitcoin industry! Subscription model in open source environment should offer something unique that the other competitors will not be able to offer for free! Zaps shouldn’t be treated as income so I don’t expect that people will fat zapping on here that will make you for living.
