Oddbean new post about login | logout now that damus has push notifications and relay rate limiting, we could actually do follow notifications... should we? it would only work if you have push notifications enabled, so maybe it would be fine to have for people who want that.
I've had a lot of people ask me in the past for these things actually, wondering why most Nostr clients don't have it. I think there's definitely a group of people that want this feature.
Nostur has it. I found it as a useful avenue for discoverability. Instead of me searching, somehow others find me. In turn I have the option to follow back. It’s akin to a suggested follow.
listening on every contact list update would be tons of data usage, this is why I've never done it. push notifications would be way more efficient. I'm surprised nostur is doing that without push.
from what I've been able to measure so far most data is still coming from images and video. I guess it may become a problem for very popular accounts but for those it also might not be that interesting anymore to know about new random followers, I will probably limit that to new followers that you already follow (following back)
This feature is important because many nostr users don't open Nostr clients frequently, so if they can be push notified when some users they follow post, it makes them remember that Nostr exist.

Super cool Will. I think as this becomes available for more browsers and more Nostr apps it will really integrate the two into one. Nostr stays blowing my mind.
