“Both Humanism and Protestantism continue the work of Scholasticism and Francis of Assisi — the search to improve Orthodoxy, to improve on Christianity as it has been handed down in the tradition. So they are continuing this work of Dostoyevsky’s Grand Inquisitor. Both Humanism and Protestantism are stages in the destruction of the Christian world-view.” - Fr. Seraphim Rose, Orthodox Survival Course, Lesson 3: Renaissance
Do you had a chance to read Father John Strickland’s Paradise and Utopia series? I was invited to attend an Orthodox service a few weeks ago, and afterward the Father recommended that series as a Protestant interested in Orthodoxy.
I haven’t heard of that particular series. What did you think of the service? Was it a Divine Liturgy?
Service was great! As a scripture reader, it was aligned with Howie would imagine the Apostles would worship based on the Epistles. Focused solely on worshiping Jesus. Way different then what I’m used to. I attend an Assembles of God church (think a local Hillsong). I believe it was the Church New Year service. I’m gonna order the books the father recommended, just curious if anyone else have read them.
