Black flour corn still needs more drying time, but pollination was good. This year I am going to bring it inside and dry under a fan. Last year my corn molded in storage. #gardenstr #homesteading https://m.primal.net/KbKi.jpg
Montana Morado?
Yes. Have to try it. But if I like the taste I think it will be my go to.
I grew it last year and had ok yields despite sheer total utter neglect. We've barely used it because good friends gave us some cornmeal that they ground from corn they grew, and we haven't gone through that yet. I did make chicha with a few smaller ears though. Pretty good, I'd make it again I think.
Still have most of a gallon https://image.nostr.build/5d97cf5f451690815340ec6593389131cca34557150b6f510a97de957a56b052.jpg
How does growing flour corn differ from sweet corn?
The same until the end. Sweet you have to time when it’s at the perfect tender sweet stage. Dry corn you just forget about until everything is dying back. The only issue is if you get late summer rains or fall rain, that can ruin the crop.
Noted. Cuz I definitely screwed up my sweet corn for this year. Definitely gunna try again next year, but switch to dent if I suck again
I saw the picks the corn looked good. You just let them go too long. I like to feel the ears to see if they are filled out. If so I just shuck and eat in the field. When they start tasting the way i like I harvest them all. That’s what I don’t like about sweet corn unless you have a big family. It’s such a short window for good eating.
That's a beautiful corn strain 😍 It's posible to make popcorn with it?
No, it is flour so it is soft. Bread, tortillas and a ok polenta.
