I’m thinking of repurposing an old Raspberry Pi 4 8GB RAM, 128GB SD card, as a NOSTR relay. I’d like to build a WoT relay using a Docker container on the Raspberry Pi and host it in my house using a Cloudflare tunnel. Is this the way? Advice please! #asknostr
Don’t think Pi is not strong enough to handle the traffic
It should be, it would mostly be my own notes and my Pi Umbrel runs a relay along with a full BTC node.
Oh you mean as a backup on umbrel? Yes. As a general relay for other people to connect to, No.
I would allow frens and family.
U got alot of frens tho Mike. 😁
Good point Stu, OK, rethinking my plans: https://i.nostr.build/A6N03KqQIG4CvdeS.jpg
not on umbrel. It will allow one npub only
I already have an Umbrel, this is just a backup relay with no clearnet connection. I also experimented with a Start9 relay, but no longer run it. I also already have a relay.tools relay at: https://nortis.nostr1.com/ I'm now looking at the next level, a relay that I can fully control that runs from a server I control that costs me next to nothing and uses the WoT model. If it works on a RPi 4, but struggles to cope, I can upgrade to a RPi 5 and I also have a 2TB SSD I can add. I have a 1GB fibre Internet connection at the home I would locate it at, so plenty of bandwidth.
Yes - u can domain can do dns manage guessing - build mean u just wanna deploy guessing sw on Pi open it on clearnet via CF pick a ARM based pre compiled relay unless u r expert compile it u can pick any relay sw - since many has smart filters now ! that can turned ON or OFF based on events / situation if u want allow new comers run open or POW relay - WOT means just known friends circle
