The local marina is getting an upgrade and we had to find a new mooring for Heart of Gold. Beautiful weather here in Aus so we sailed 50nm north, sharing the journey with LOADS of humpback whales, terns and sea life. Never seen so many whales in my life 🐋

what type of boat you sailing on? We used to own an Ohlson38.
It’s a Flicka 20, built in the US in the 1970’s. I bought her a few years back in the Bay of Islands. Sailed her up that way for a bit before doing the jump across the Tasman back to Australia
Nice capable boats. We sailed ours from Amsterdam to Auckland and have now sold her. Was a great adventure.
What an awesome trip, would love to sail downwind through the pacific one day
Yes the Pacific is beautiful. The downwind from Costa Rica to Hiva Oa was the best sailing we had over the 2,5 year period. It was 6 weeks of bliss.
Unreal! Definitely a dream of mine to do a voyage like that one day. I often find myself looking at different yachts for sale in Europe that would be ideal for that trip.
I was sailing north yesterday and collided with a whale. Thankfully no damage and rudders still intact. Scary shit. Lots about at the moment.
Geez that would’ve been terrifying. Glad to hear you escaped unscathed
