I hope the deal was, 

"help us make chips, and we'll use our awesome military to definitely defend Taiwan when the war starts," 

And not, 
"Help us, or else, and we're not defending you anyways."

I worry when Republicans and libertarians say Taiwan is the same as Ukraine. Its not. 

 We'll never know
