 @6ad053c8 : trust.

Like @749d2a0c , their whole business is to not spy you and would be ruined the day we discover they still do.

They have very high incentives not to do it. Also, Kagi is pretty small and you can directly mail the CEO about your concerns.

Yes, this is an imperfect solution. I’m not trying to convince anyone: this is not for everyone.

But, currently, it works for my own usecase (trying to oppose advertising and corporate spying but without any critical security needed)
 @59a3776c @749d2a0c I quite trust protonmail because there's encryption in the process. I would be far more careful with services in clear text.
 @6ad053c8 @749d2a0c : not the same kind data. For me, search can be compared to a VPN: you have to trust the provider to not spy you.

If you don’t trust a provider, then you don’t use it (which is fine).

As I was using DDG before, Kagi is clearly an upgrade on every front (no ads, better result, better business model).

If you have your own searx instance, then Kagi doesn’t probably makes sense for you.
 @59a3776c @6ad053c8 @749d2a0c Well, I can't compare the results of Kagi and #SearxNG, and maybe those of the first are better, but I've been running my own instance of the latter for a month and am quite happy with it. Why, did you chose Kagi over Searx(NG)?
 @66ad00dd @6ad053c8 : didn’t manage to find a searx instance that was both fast and with good results. Was missing way too much stuff.

But things could change. SearX is probably the future but, at least for me, doesn’t seem ready for every day use.
 @59a3776c @6ad053c8 I remember a speaker saying that SearX was the future… back in 2010 at the RMLL (I think he was one of the main developers). 😅 I tried searx.be for a week or two before installing my own instance (on a RPi with Yunohost). I tweaked it a little but not the main results tab. I get VERY similar results with DDG so… if DDG doesn’t fit your needs, indeed Searx won’t. Did you give #LibreY a try? (LibreX seems broken).
 @66ad00dd @6ad053c8 : I didn’t know #librey

Looks really interesting!
