Quote on marriage by Mary Wollstonecraft.

I’ve carried this sentiment with me for many years, that the primary motivation for men to get married is guaranteed sex. I never bothered to share it with anyone as I know I’d be looked at like I have three heads.

It may seem outlandish looking at marriage today when women have their own income, aren't completely dependent on men, can own property, divorce, etc. Looking at the history of marriage (.. and marriage as it is in conservative, religious countries today) calling it prostitution is not far-fetched in the least. Women would be sold to whomever provided the highest dowry, would get no inheritance as they would get married off, to enjoy a life of providing free cleaning, childcare, and sex to a man they hardly knew.

To anyone who questions the sentiment, we should ask, where do you think "damaged goods" terminology comes from? Culture doesn't form overnight. If men consider women property, marriage can only be prostitution, not a loving union between two people.
