 But the blockchain is public already so not that private to begin with. If you want true private transactions then Bitcoin is not the way to go 
 The ledger is public but identifying info is not. There’s currently ways to remain anonymous if you follow the right practices. The state is attempting to eliminate all of those ways. But yes, bitcoin needs more anonymity at the protocol level to fight this.
