I watch a lot of cooking shows. It seems that every single one of them start with "picking a protein" that is meat or fish. Often, the protein is lamb or veal. 

A favorite "challenge" on the reality TV cooking competition shows is - gasp! - make a vegetarian meal, or even worse, use tofu. 

The faces on the contestants tell us all we need to know about how difficult it will be to reduce those slaughter numbers. Sigh.
