XMPP and Matrix are two competing federated end-to-end encrypted messengers. XMPP is far better, on server cost decentralization, speed over Tor, degoogled push notifications, multi-identities, and overall privacy. So if Matrix is inferior centralized bloatware, why is it more popular? Especially among techies, who should in theory understand these concepts.

This brand new video gives a quick overview of the technical reasons that XMPP is the gold standard king of federation. And it briefly discusses how Matrix manages to push it’s agenda:

I used to use Matrix in the past, not sure about xmpp. Used it because many people recommended it.

Will watch the video, thanks.
 Competition? Xmpp is dead
 Dead to who?
Eh, the masses? Just see the number of active users. Variety and amount of groups on each
There's more xmpp users than nostr
I have not used both so I cant really compare them, but I can smell a crappy "comparison" video from a mile away.
video basically boils down to XMPP is the greatest thing every and Matrix sucks....no citations or link to documents covering why

Also if your a "privacy website" and you only link to your own website and not github links for projects... well your a fraud
The articles have links. The videos don't . most of the comments made from the video are subjective experience such as synapse load speed. If you want to study this academically and get back to us with numbers please do. The term fraud means we are lying
I believe you are lying, or at lease presenting the information and options in bad faith. If your goal is to teach people how to use more private communications, then a 3 minute video full of subjective options on "speed" and "extremely easy to setup" of XMPP vs the "buggy-ness" or "slowness" of matix dose not teach anyone anything.
A video with only positive things about XMPP and only negative things about Matrix isn't a good "comparison" video and smells dishonest or like a scam to me.

also there are links in the article but they only link to more pages on your own website and not to matrix.org or xmpp.org where someone could go to learn more about the programs or how to set them up.

We will be making tutorials on xmpp. We can only move so fast. First one was on what is xmpp
I used both and run a homeserver for both. Both suck. Federated server solutions suck. Maintaining the server was a huge hassle and required a lot of system resources.
Using someone else's server would defeat the entire purpose.
I'd use xmpp, but none of my cool guy friends are there :(
 Like anything,
Change starts with you
I'm with you that Matrix is bloated. But XMPP has no default encryption and most clients are just super bad, which makes XMPP unusable in these times.

I'm waiting for (better) encrypted messaging on Nostr.
Sounds like you're comparing xmpp to hypothetical utopian not yet released stuff
