 @fc501b69 @4eebd810 I think it’s this. Back in the day I started using Chrome because it was lean and fast. When that stopped being the case and it became a slow, bloated vehicle for ad tech, I stopped. Most of my friends and coworkers still just stick with it due to inertia, though.
 @9ed0fe3f @fc501b69 With all the #privacy issues, maybe a good time to start thinking coming back back to the fox 😅

People. Don't. Care.

People are so technologically indolent, you just cannot imagine.
 @fc501b69 @4eebd810 Whenever Google does the latest thing to make Chrome worse, I send an article about it to a couple of friends. Both are tech professionals. One has a huge list of professional security certifications to his name. Neither are bothered enough to actually swap to something different.
 @9ed0fe3f @4eebd810

So many layers of abstractions today. The average tech worker is really not that technically proficient.

And also, security and privacy aren't the same. Lot of people who care a lot about security don't give a rip about privacy.

I'm not sure why we're surprised that the same industry (and the people thereof) that let garbage/evil companies like MS & GOOG gain dominance don't give a rip about human rights.
 @fc501b69 @4eebd810 I also think that even people who do understand both security and privacy have a defeatist attitude. People think, "Well, Google already knows all of my browsing habits, personal information, etc., so I'll keep using Chrome because it's convenient."

Rarely do people seem to want to actually give an indication to these companies that their behavior is unacceptable by not using their products.
 This is why I often encourage people to #resist - if only just a little bit. Not using #Google as your primary search engine is resisting a little. Using an alternative browser, or a #degoogled browser is resisting a little.

Using #Linux instead of #Windows is resisting a little more.
 @matthew - retroedge.tech @4eebd810 @9ed0fe3f

Definitely. All-or-nothing thinking is idiotic. Mitigation is the name of the game.
 @9ed0fe3f they may understand it, but they do not care about it.

It starts with you, and every little bit counts.

Also, we don't indicate our resistance to Big Tech. They wouldn't notice. We lead by example and hope that dozens or eventually hundreds of our peers follow and we create a snowball effect. *That* Google would notice.

Exactly. It's always the slowly-boiled frog with these awful companies.
