To be fair, those old-fashioned methods of food production wouldn't be able to feed even half the current world population. What we really need is increased efficiency paired with increasing quality requirements and environmental standards. Which, very importantly, includes getting rid of this strange idea that there's anything romantic about farming. That idea only exists in the minds of people who have never been on a farm. 

 I think what we really need is depopulation but conspiracy theorists went totally bonkers lately and convinced everyone that the elite is out to genocide everyone, making this sentiment unwelcome
