Got a uBlox neo 6m module from a webshop. For a few power cycles, I got a lock, in another, I got time/date etc every second. But after that I am mostly getting garbage from the serial port. In all probability, it seem like a fake unit. The external appearance of the unit (print on the unit/typeface/spacing etc) all look like it is a genuine one. Before I remove the can over the device, I want to make sure that it is really fake. Is there a way to find out?
@82f41ecb what is reported at boot? Before the first nmea messages you get boot messages with firmware version. Did it reset itself to ublox protocol instead of nmea? Did you try connecting to it with the public ublox diagnostic program?
@82f41ecb Peel the label, there are pics of genuine U-Blox modules on U-Blox's website and one of the tells is the presence and arrangement of 3 holes in the screening can. Also the U-Blox Windows application is helpful. Make sure the voltages are correct though, I've seen them do weird things if the regulator on board hasn't got enough headroom
