If in your area, criminals commonly use AR-15s, is that a reason that law abiding citizens who want to defend themselves against these criminals should get stronger weapons than AR-15s? I'm confused now.
Yes. AR-15s are not high powered. It fires a medium cartridge, which is why many use it as a (big) pistol. A step up would be an AR-10 which is a legit battle rifle. #gunstr #grownostr nostr:nevent1qqsxafdd22feqk9hqf9punvrpeu8krfhc4xvva3hr55h9h0h0aah5gqpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejsygzxljlrqe027xh8sy2xtyjwfzfrxcll8afxh4hh847psjckhkxwf5psgqqqqqqsfnh9xv
Look, I get your point and I'm pro gun and don't disagree, but power is kinda a relative term here... 5.56 has a shit load of velocity. It's a lot more power than any pistol cartridge.
If we are discussing the act of taking a loaded weapon off SAFE and firing it at a human, that is deadly intent wether it be a .22 or higher.

Guys, you are thinking about this all wrong. The firearm most likely to be used in a crime against you is a small calibre handgun. Any rifle or shotgun is overmatch for that. And marksmanship and "pucker factor" beats firepower every time.
In a home defense situation, a shotgun is the way to go against anything. 12 gauge, 00 buckshot, old and tried, effective as fuck, yet safer than rifles (or slugs). If you're afraid of thin walls, do a 4 instead of 00. On the street, I don't see any realistic option other than a concealable handgun. I mean, if legal, you can carry a rifle in your car I guess. In case, I don't know, you find yourself in the middle of a Hamas-style attack all of a sudden?
Totally agree with the above. If you suddenly and unexpectedly find yourself in an actual war zone, then handgun is still best - you'll be a low priority target if you look unarmed, and you can ditch it if you're about to be captured.
Well, it always depends. In a let's call it "dynamic scenario", a handgun is the best because it's portable and concealable. So you can bug out more easily than if you were carrying something bigger. If you find yourself actually having to shoot indoors or at close range, it's serviceable but a shotgun is always better. In the open field and mid or long range, then definitely a handgun is not great to shoot at bad guys and, again, the advantage it offers is getting the hell away more easily.
My shotgun is currently loaded with slugs. One try to find a reasonably priced source for flight control buck. Accuracy is necessary where I live, and my shotgun will also put a significant hurt on anyone wearing body armor...
Taking notes... :)
I totally see why. But in a home defense situation I would worry about overpenetration, rather than a potential body armor-clad attacker. The problem is not just maybe hitting an unintended target but also that you want the projectile to stay inside the attacker for maximum damage.
I enjoy an overmatch
Obviously. What confuses you? If you have a problem, any type of problem, you obviously want something that overpowers it. Anyhow, the most important use case for guns is deterrence. If the bad guys show up with guns, you want to be able to show them a bigger gun, indeed. Chances are that they either give up before starting any serious shit, or that they bail when they hear your first BOOM.
My comment was tongue in cheek. ;)
Were I live firearms are also illegal -- other than for "sport use". So I own guns legally, but I'd be in deep shit if I ever used them outside of the range or of a fully authorized and reported hunting event. Of course, in such a situation that I actually had to use my guns, I'd rather deal with the consequences of breaking the law than of not doing it.
